Island in the Sky

A raw landscape lays at the foot of rich native mountainous ranges. Farmed with livestock and ploughed for orchards, the country bleeds below this untouched haven. The grand mountain covered in bushland ranges has been known by many names.

I was introduced to Mount Buffalo through warm winds, whispering historical identities. Before hungry graziers occupied this golden land, the original custodians, the Taungurung people called the mountain, Dordordonga the friendly mountain.

As friendships have formed over time, our original custodians and National Parks respect their continuing role in preserving the “Island in the Sky”.
